The Group has members representing museums, galleries, archives and
libraries including national, international, regional and independent
institutions and those attached to universities and local authorities. Members
of the Executive Committee are individuals with a professional interest in
intellectual property rights (IPR), and include representatives from the
Collections Trust, the National Archives, the National Museums Directors
Conference (NMDC), a number of National museums, the United Kingdom Registrars
Group (UKRG), the Libraries and Archives Copyright Alliance (LACA), law firms
and independent consultants.

Benefits of membership:
- Exclusive membership of the MCG online discussion forum where individual
copyright issues can be raised and answers shared;
- Invitation to two Annual Wider Group meetings a year, one of which will be
held outside London;
- Continued lobbying of the UK Intellectual Property Office regarding the
copyright interests of the museum / gallery sector;
- Minutes to the quarterly Executive and Wider Group meetings;
- Networking opportunities via Wider Group meetings, the online discussion
forum and generally-circulated Members list.
Who can join?
The Museums Copyright Group is keen to offer the benefits of membership to
as broad a range of interested parties as possible.
Institutional membership is offered to any museum, gallery, or
similar institution, allowing a certain number of members depending on the level
of the organisation's income (see Membership
application form).
Individual membership is offered to any person not less than 18
years of age and being:
- an employee of a museum;
- an employee of an organisation established to represent the
interests of museums or of an organisation having museums as its members.
- The Executive Committee shall be entitled to invite persons to
become members who, though they may not be eligible under the previous points,
are considered by the Executive Committee to have made or to be capable of
making a significant contribution to the work of the Group.
Supporters' membership is offered to those who have demonstrated an
interest in the work of the Group and may in the opinion of the Executive
Committee make a contribution as supporters.
How to join?
Any museum or person who wishes to become a member or supporter of the group
can apply for membership through the Secretary of the Group, Debbie McDonnell ([email protected]),
or simply complete the Membership
application form on these web pages.
